We are seeking to add a highly-motivated mid-to-senior level licensed Professional Engineer to our team of multi-disciplinary professionals. The individual will have knowledge in the behavior of structural systems and their components for use in forensic engineering relating to residential, commercial, industrial facilities, marine and inland structures. Experience in performing failure cause & origin analysis on building systems, authoring technical reports, and construction litigation is a plus.  Building system types include, but not limited to, steel, concrete, masonry, wood, roofing and building envelopes.

Responsibilities and Duties include:

  • Field work to document as-built conditions and damage to structural systems as a result of natural (wind, water, fire, earth movement, etc.) and/or human induced origins (design and construction errors/omissions). Natural events can include large catastrophes such as regional floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, fires and earthquakes.
  • Utilize building codes, technical knowledge of structural behavior, and understanding of construction practices to establish repair scope recommendations as well as cause and origin analyses.
  • Evaluate design drawings and documentation.
  • Have proficiency with or be willing to learn building envelope and roofing systems.
  • Communicate with Clients, interface with code officials and contractors as well as author detailed technical reports.
  • Manage multiple project assignments, executing them on time and within budget.
  • Retention and development of Client relationships.
  • Willing to travel, as needed, on short notice.

Education and Experience requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering from an ABET accredited program required.  
  • Florida Licensed Professional Engineer through NCEES examination. Multiple state registrations (or ability to obtain within) a plus; licensure in NC, SC, GA, AL, MS, LA, TX will be expected. Minimum 10 Years Structural Engineering experience in design or other background that promotes an understanding of structural behavior and/or science of the building envelope.
  • Knowledge of national building and construction codes (ICC, ASCE, AISC, ACI, NDS, etc.)
  • Knowledge and experience of structural engineering concepts, principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of multiple types of construction, a plus. 
  • Field experience.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are mandatory.
  • Experience in providing Litigation Support including Expert Testimony at Depositions and/or Trial, Mediation and Arbitration proceedings, a plus.

The individual should have experience performing site visits, condition assessments and documenting findings, confirming scope of work, analysis and evaluation of estimated repair and replacement costs for commercial, residential, industrial, marine and inland structures. Experience in document review and analyses of schedules, contracts, change orders, daily construction reports, authoring technical reports, and construction litigation is desired.

 Responsibilities and Duties include:

  • Identify costs and associated potential hidden exposure/risk to develop rough order of magnitude cost estimates.
  • Assist in the preparation of work scopes, instructions to bidders, bid forms or solicitation of relevant information, as needed.

Education and Experience requirements:

  • 5 + years of experience (variety of public and private projects) including $5 million+.

  • Proven analytical and interpretive skills in preparing comprehensive and accurate construction cost estimates (detailed and conceptual).
  • Experience in property loss estimating is desirable.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Extensive experience with Xactimate, RS Means, Microsoft Excel and Word, on-screen takeoff software and/or other construction estimating software.
  • Restoration industry experience desirable.
  • Remediation experience including providing appropriate methods of fire and smoke damage restoration, structural drying, and mold remediation and clerk of works services desirable.

Education and Experience requirements:

  • 10 years plus of experience in roofing for new and existing structures including investigation, design, testing and/or installation.
  • Understanding of building systems with various roofing systems for commercial, industrial, single- and multi-family, high-rise buildings and structures.
  • Understanding of roofing details including but not limited to, flashing, interfaces with adjacent building systems, and roofing systems.
  • Experience with low-slope roofs including built-up roofing systems (BUR), metal panel roofing systems, polymer-modified bitumen sheet membranes, thermoplastic and thermoset single-ply membranes, and spray polyurethane foam-based roof systems.
  • Experience with steep-slope roofs including asphalt shingles, clay and concrete tile, metal panel and tile roofing systems, slate, wood shakes and shingles, and synthetic roofs.
  • Experience in roof testing including infrared, nuclear, or electrical capacitance surveys; core sampling; ASTM procedures; and gravimetric analysis.
  • Experience with utilizing third-party laboratories for analysis of roof samples for roofing system and assembly failure determination, desirable.
  • Membership with IIBEC (formerly RCI, Inc.) a plus along with Registered Roof Consultant (RRC) or Registered Roof Observer (RRO) status preferred.
  • Knowledge of local and national building codes and design practices for roofing systems.
