Fertilizer Plant Explosion

Nashville, TN

The Project

A Urea Ammonium Nitrate fertilizer explosion occurred with over $310 million claimed.

The Challenge

At the time when MKA became involved, the parties had reached a state of impasse at $126 million apart. The scope of MKA’s assignment was expanded in phases including the independent assessment of incident related costs and time.

The Solution

Initially, MKA prepared a detailed as-built schedule of the ammonia plant to analyze the time effects of owner scope betterments.

Subsequently, MKA’s team analyzed actual costs and cost differences and created a customized database to develop a comprehensive cost analysis shared with all involved parties.

The Result

Ultimately, this cost analysis became the basis of the final claim settlement.
