Hospital/Medical Facility

Chicago, IL

The Project

MKA was engaged to assess the damage that resulted from a chiller line rupturing in a hospital in Chicago, Illinois. By the time MKA got involved, the billion dollar hospital project was already well underway. MKA prepared an evaluation and provided assistance in the development of the most feasible way to repair the damage that considered the time element impacts.

The Challenge

This project was so challenging partially because the completion date could not be extended. Furthermore, the two towers were 17 and 22 stories high and linked to the existing hospital, meaning MKA had to be mindful of the dynamics between current designers, owners, and contractors as they related to the ongoing work as well as that of  MKA recognized that the need for a purposeful and highly reactive program in order to solve the challenge.

The Solution

As a multidisciplinary company, MKA applied expertise from various professional disciplines. We specifically used our many years of Property Loss Assessment experience to help the contracting parties with undertaking extra work while staying on track. MKA worked hand-in-hand with the Owner, Designers, Construction Manager and Contractors, to ensure that the remediation did not extend the project completion date.

The Result

The project work, as well as the remediation of the damaged components, were completed on time.
